When you walk into San Dentistry, no matter what age, our goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Why? Because we understand that dental anxiety is a real issue. If you are an adult struggling with dental phobia, we want you to know about these important steps you can take to ease your fear.

The most important thing you can do is establish trust between you and your dentist. Being open and honest with your dentist about your fears or past dental experiences will help him or her tailor your dental experience to fit your comfort levels.

For example, at San Dentistry, we start out in our Consultation room where you have the opportunity to explain your concerns and ensure your dentist is on the same page as you. We also provide blankets for our patients so they may experience a warmer, more relaxing procedure.

Another option to help reduce anxiety is to consider the option of sedative agents. We have several levels of sedative agents that we utilize. The use of nitrous oxide, otherwise known as “laughing gas,” is commonly used to help with anxiety during dental procedures.

Nitrous oxide is completely safe and can help you relax in the dentist chair without putting you to sleep. Speak with your dentist to see if this option is right for you.

Another option many patients use is a new procedure called NuCalm. Patients are also utilizing Oral Conscious Sedation, where we use relaxing medicine that inhibits your ability to remember the procedure.

Lastly, treats aren’t just for kids. Reward yourself after for overcoming your fear! We believe that bravery should be celebrated for all ages.

At San Dentistry, we strive to build trusting relationships with our patients, ease dental anxiety, and ultimately give you the confidence to flash your healthiest smile. We promise to accommodate you to the best of our abilities!
